Second lady Samira Bawumia, founder of The Samira Empowerment and Humanitarian Projects (SEHP) has inaugurated a library for the Kanda Cluster of Schools.
The library named “SEHP Learning and Literacy Centre” will be a centre of activity and learning for the students. It will also guide and support their academic and personal endeavors.
The center features 60 seats and an ICT laboratory with five computers.
Mrs. Bawumia, wife of the Vice President said the center highlighted the foundation’s dedication to education, knowledge, and the future of children.
“This centre is a testament to the importance of education and power of knowledge. It is a symbol of our commitment to providing students with the resources they need to succeed,” she stated.
She noted that libraries played essential role in learners’ educational journeys by providing access to knowledge, resources, and technology that helped them flourish.
According to her, the foundation aims to encourage literacy, critical thinking, and foster a reading culture among students in the country.
Mrs Bawumia stated that the charity has supplied over 200,000 books to 64 basic schools around the country through its “Library-in-a-Box” project, which provided books to schools with under-stocked libraries or no libraries.
She said that the learning and literacy center would help students gain vital ICT skills, conduct Internet research, and become better readers.
“It is a gateway to the world of knowledge and learning; a place where students can come to discover new ideas, perspectives and ways of thinking,” she added.
