International evangelist and Founder of Worldwide Miracle Outreach, Rev. Lawrence Tetteh has said that the Police cannot stop the Church from making prophetic statements on December 31.

In an interview on Joy News, Rev. Tetteh weighed in on debates about the police’s directives on banning pastors from making ominous end–of–year predictions.

According to him, “We have to be extremely careful not to throw the baby out with the bath water.

“In every community, we have the good, the bad, and the ugly. The Police should not use the attitude of a few bad ones against the hard-earned reputation of the majority of the clergymen. The work of the Church should not be taken for granted,” he said.

The evangelist agrees that some of his colleague pastors make irresponsible predictions during end–of–year watch night services by pronouncing death and some horrifying prophesies.

According to him, “I am the first to agree that some of my colleagues have been irresponsible with their statements during December 31, by pronouncing death and horrifying things, but that should not undermine the fact that prophecies are real, and it is not in the place of the police to determine what prophecy should be given at the end of the year.”

He further stated that Ghana is a very religious nation, and Ghanaians take December 31 extremely seriously because many people only have the chance to attend church on that day to renew their faith in God.

“It is very dangerous and undermines freedom of expression, freedom of views, and freedom of worship, and I think it is wrong for the Police to make such a pronouncement,” he stated.

Rev. Tetteh urged the police to speak with such pastors rather than making a blanket statement, emphasizing that the government’s organs must be very careful to remember that without the religious community, all would have been lost.
