The family of Godfred Okai who was allegedly arrested for theft have accused the police of murder.

The deceased, 23, was arrested as a suspect in a recent robbery incident captured on CCTV happened in Kasoa on December 20, 2022 where a mobile money vendor was shot and robbed.

His sister, Regina Gogah who saw the police take him away said they arrested him at around 1:30 am after the deceased had opened his door for them.

They then headed him to a white pick-up and took him away.

“They asked us to join them at the Kasoa Police Headquarters after arresting him but directed us to Kasoa overhead where we were directed to the police station around Pentecost, we went to every Kasoa Police station but didn’t see him. They broke into my room when they came for him and were asking me where the gun was. He is a mason and does not have any underlying condition, I am sure they did something harmful to him and killed him,” he said.

“We searched for him everywhere since they took him away but could not find him, the CID came here yesterday and asked us to join them at the station, only to tell us he was dead when we got there,” he added.

The mother of the deceased, Rebecca Gogah called out to the President and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), to bring back her son.

“My son is a mason, all that I am saying is the IGP should bring back my son.”

The two other suspects namely Michael Otu and Asabaa have been remanded and are set to reappear at the Ofankor district court on January 12, 2023.
