The Minister of youth and Sport, Mustapha Ussif, has refused to accept the responsibility for alleged absconding of some Ghanaian para-athletes in Oslo.
It is recalled that reports of some Ghanaian para-athletes absconding after arriving for a paralympic game in Oslo, has gone viral.
This news, which was contained in a letter from the Ministry of National Security to the Foreign Affairs and Sport Ministers, urged the Ministries to address the concerning matters arising out of the development.
Some reports have it that the team numbering 11, including the now deceased head coach of the team, George Gyasi, had forged the signatories of the President of the Amputee team, a situation that could not be detected by the Norwegian embassy.
Following the reports, President of the Ghana para-athlete team,Sampson Deen, denied such representation saying those purported athletes were not part of their team.
Reports have it have the Norwegian authorities have arrested one of the athletes who was trying to travel to Sweden from Norway.
But addressing the press, Mr. Ussif stated that he could not be blame for such debacle as the Norwegian embassy failed to follow the established protocols for the issuance of the VISA.
He noted that neither the Sports Authority nor the Ministry of Youth and Sports aware of the VISA request for the purported games.
He contended that he could not accept responsibility for a situation he did not know anything about.
Mr. Ussif also added that he has referred the matter to the security authorities for investigation.
Meanwhile other reports suggest that all four family members of the deceased coach who had gone to convey the final remains of their ward to Ghana have also absconded.
