The Minority leader, Dr. Attoh Forson has returned a gloomy verdict on Ghana’s economy.
He noted that owing to the current’s government abysmal economic performance, Ghana has lost its investment spot to other countries
He noted that Ghana is no longer attractive investment destination, as many companies are moving from Ghana to neighboring countries, including Benin, Togo and Cote d’Ivoire.
He made these comments on the floor of parliament while commenting on the mid-year budget statement presentation by the finance minister
According to the former deputy Minister of Finance, the imposition of high tariffs and duties on imports has forced businesses to relocate, a situation that has led Tema port to lose 50% of its traffic.
The Minister of Finance presented Dr. Amin Adam the Mid-year budget review in accordance with the constitution.
Among others, the Minister empathized with Ghanaians for bearing the brunt of the economic crisis across the world, which Ghana has been no exception.
But reacting to the presentation, Dr. Forson expressed disappointment that the Minister neither removed nor cut any tax.
He also noted that despite admitting that Ghana was in hard times, the Minister of Finance missed the opportunity of introducing a policy that will serve to address the challenges.
‘’….A number of taxes that has made Ghana a high tax regime to the extent that businesses and individuals are moving out of the country….’’ he stated.
He cited COVID levy, E-levy, Sanitation and Betting tax, as taxes that should have been removed.
