
Kwasi Amoako-Atta, Minister of Roads and Highways has said that the government is going to pay all debts owed to contractors by the end of the year .
In a statement released by the minister at a gathering at the 2022 Nine Lessons and Carols of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) in Accra, contractors are doing a yeoman’s job despite the difficulties and so the government will now do everything in their power to settle their outstanding payments from time to time.
“Contractors of this country are doing a yeoman’s job despite all the difficulties, and I want to assure them that Government will continue to work in their interest and all their outstanding payments from now onwards will be done from time to time,” he said .
He added that: “A chunk of outstanding (payments) are going to be effected before the end of the year and it will continue.”
The event was organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Roads and Highways .
The minister said despite the problems faced by the current economy, the government did not stop any road projects and assured there would be more investment into that sector.
He pleaded to areas with bad roads to exercise patience and that the government road projects would get to them soon .
“The people deserve to have good roads. I appeal to all those who haven’t had their turn to be patient and calm,” he said .
He also pleaded to motorists and car drivers to also take good care of our roads and obey road signs to keep all of us safe .
“We see drivers refusing to obey speed limits, especially on new roads. We should not turn roads into death traps.
“Road development of our nation is a total effort from all of us. Let’s continue to observe road safety signs and respect all road users, including pedestrians and cyclists,” he added.
