A Former Deputy Minister of Information, Felix Ofosu Kwakye has taken a swipe at government for paying lip service to agriculture without any monumental achievements.
He made this statement on Metro TV’s Good Morning Show, while commenting on Farmers’ Day ceremony.
‘’Get the job done, do it, Get the right personnel and stop the sloganeering and the talk. That won’t get us anywhere,’’ he charged.
He mentioned that despite the huge amount of money pumped into government’s flagship, planting for Food and Jobs project, there is still no monumental improvement in agriculture in the country.
He remarked that at the time that the NPP came into office, 125 million Canadian dollar grant had been obtained to undertake a holistic agricultural drive, which the NPP has repackaged as Planting for Food and Jobs.
‘’Since then, they have been throwing in a lot of money….If you spend about $500 million $ we expect some tangible outcomes. It is not a chicken change. We should see some reasonable outcome,’’ he posited.
This year’s Farmers Day ceremony is holding at Adisadel College in Cape coast. 150 farmers and fisherfolks are expected to be awarded. The National Best Farmer is expected to receive GHC 600,000, with the National best Fisherman, getting a two-bed room house.
