An Accra Circuit Court has granted bail to a Ghanaian actress and business entrepreneur who allegedly accepted US$30,000 from Ayisha Modi, a businesswoman, under the guise of selling a piece of land in East Legon Hills but failed.
Diamond Appiah has pleaded not guilty to charges of fraudulent land transaction.
The Court, presided over by Mrs Evelyn Asamoah, granted Diamond bail in the amount of GHS300,000 with three public servant sureties.
The hearing has been adjourned to February 8.
According to the prosecution, the complainant, Ayisha Modi, sought a parcel of land to build on in 2020 and discussed it with one Johnson, a witness in this case.
The accused, who overheard the exchange, jumped in and stated she had a parcel of land in East Legon Hills and could sell it to the complaint for a lower price.
The prosecution further stated that the accused individual sought and received US$30,000.00 in cash from the complainant under the guise of selling her one parcel of land in East Legon Hills.
The accused took the complainant to a property in East Legon Hills.
According to the prosecution, the complainant afterwards went to the area and encountered a man named Gustav who claimed ownership of the land.
Meanwhile, the complainant made multiple attempts to recover her money from the accused person but failed.
According to the prosecution, the complainant filed a report with the police, and the accused was arrested.
It was discovered during the investigation that the accused person did not own any land at that location.
