Reverend Stephen Wengam of the Assemblies of God church has said that prophecies must encourage and edify people.

According to the Reverend who doubles as the Lead Pastor of Cedar Mountain Chapel, doomsday prophecies that cause fear are not from God. He believes that “prophesy must come to build, to encourage, and to strengthen.”

In an interview on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning show on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, prophecies requires some level of wisdom and good ethics.

He also stated that some prophecies should not even be said in public because they can be traumatic for the victim’s family and loved ones which he thinks should be avoided.

“Look at my daughter and my son, and you come on radio and say that I saw Pastor Wengam dead, do you know the trauma you’ll take my wife and children through?” he asked.

He said that there are times that he gets revelations but would rather pray for the person than to tell them.

Rev Wengam also had a problem with how prophecies are handled in the country, says it can be “problematic.”

“Prophesying in churches is becoming a frequent occurrence, especially ones that project fear and anxiety among individuals,” he said.

The country’s  Inspector General of Police COP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare last year warned against doom prophecies during watch night services.

But despite all this warnings some pastors, notably, Rev Owusu Bempah and Nigel Gaisie prophesied about doom on crossover night.
