UG management denies security situation on campus

The management of the University of Ghana, Legon denies allegations of any security issues encountered on campus.

There have been several reports of chaos that the school’s management could not handle by providing adequate security.

The students of the Mensah Sarbah school and Common Wealth were stopped by the security of the University of Ghana, Legon from having a planned news conference on campus. 

This action by the school management is said to have brought a brawl between the leaders of the two halls and the security personnels of the University on Tuesday, December 27, 2022.

The Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Gordon Awandare in an interview with City News, denied any form of violence and mismanagement of the situation and said that there has been calmness on campus with no security issues .

“There is no issue here, the whole place is calm and people are going about their business and there are no security issues here, and I am not sure why people are talking about security situations because there is nothing going on here,” he said.

He also added that they are doing their best to make sure students have a better education and experience and also be safe in the school.

“We are not interested in crippling anybody, but we have a responsibility to ensure that students who want to have a peaceful life on campus are given that and that is what we are doing by taking steps to ensure that students can have a peaceful life on campus.”

He lastly added that several measures have been put in place to make sure things like that don’t happen on campus.

“We have had several investigations and certain facts have been established, and we have taken actions based on the facts that have been established so far. We don’t need to wait for everything to be concluded before we take action, we work with the facts that we have as we go along.”
