Pakistan security force kills 33 hostage-takers – Defence minister says

The Defence Minister of Pakistan, Khawaja Muhammad Asif has cleared the air on the killing of the 33 hostage-takers who took over a police station.

The station was seized by Islamist militants from the Pakistani Taliban on Sunday in the north-western Bannu district.

The hostages included security officials who were inside the station at the time of the incident.

Two special forces were killed, 10 to 15 members of the military were injured and luckily, all the hostages were fine and freed.

The group confirmed their involvement in the attack and are also know as TTP. 

They have been in conflict with the government over the past years of which they were influenced to lay low but, they striked back in 2007 and were controlled by the military in 2014.

A safe exit was requested during the attack for the release of the hostages, but was to no avail, as a militant hit a guard on the head with a brick and snatched his weapon and made way for the freedom of the hostages.

All efforts among the attackers proved futile after they were discovered arguing among themselves, which served as an opportunity for the army to take over the place at 12:30 local time.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government were blamed by the Defence minister for this tragedy.

Schools and businesses remain closed till date with police checkpoints in place.

Many of these attacks were targeted at the security forces, of which four policemen were also killed in a different attack on Sunday.

Pakistan is now known to be facing series of attacks which goes on to endanger the lives of the people and security personnels.
