Sweden confirms it will seek Nato membership, after decades of non-alignment.

Its PM announces the move a day after Finland formally stated it would apply to join the alliance.

Meanwhile, President Putin says there is no threat to Russia from the Nordic states joining, but new military infrastructure on their territory would provoke a response.

Some of the biggest-ever Nato military exercises in the Baltics have therefore been taking place in Estonia and Latvia.

The UK’s most senior military officer also says Ukraine is winning the war and its survival is now guaranteed.

Ukrainian troops counter-attacking near the north-eastern city of Kharkiv have reached the Russian border, says the regional governor McDonald’s and Renault become the latest international brands to say they’ll stop doing business in Russia because of the war.
