The Death of Archbishop Desmond Tutu has been reported, across the World

His death was confirmed in a statement by President Cyril Ramaphosa on Sunday, December 26, 2021.

A Nobel Peace Prize laureate and veteran activist against South Africa’s struggle against white minority rule, he died at age 90.

The Iconic South African Clergy, is widely respected across the world for his activism, philanthropic work and great oratory.

As part of efforts in celebrating this illustrious African son, flags in South Africa and all diplomatic missions overseas are to be hoisted at half-mast.

Seven days of Send-off has been declared in his celebration, and as part of this effort the Anglican church is expected to conduct a send-off service for him.

A veteran anti-apartheid icon , Desmond Tutu was one of the driving forces behind the movement to end the policy of racial segregation and discrimination enforced by the white minority government against the black majority in South Africa from 1948 until 1991.

He emerged as one of the most prominent opponents of South Africa’s apartheid system of racial segregation and white minority rule.

Like Nelson Mandela, Desmond Tutu stressed non-violence and the use of foreign economic pressure to bring universal suffrage.

He was awarded the Nobel prize in 1984 for his role in the struggle to abolish the apartheid system.

Since his retirement, he has been involved in a plethora of humanitarian efforts. This has since brought him international acclaim and respect, across the world.

 According to South Africa’s President, Desmond Tutu ‘’distinguished himself as a non-sectarian, inclusive champion of universal human rights”.
