Ahead of the Christmas festivities, Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau has warned its citizens against what they describe as non-essential international travels.

Authorities in Canada have also put out an advisory warning against such travels, in addition to ramping up testing at the border for everyone coming home.

According to the Prime Minister, these measures are aimed at curtailing the spread of the Omicron variant, which is said to have high infectious rate.

‘’If you’re planning to travel outside of Canada for the holidays, please, change your plans. Let’s be clear: with the emergence of the Omicron variant and its spread around the world, now is not the time for non-essential international travel,’’ he stated.

‘’It’s still incredibly important to follow public health guidelines and, more than anything, to get vaccinated. After all, we have enough vaccines for your kids over 5 to get their first dose – and we’ve secured enough boosters for adults. So, when it’s your turn, get your shot,’’ he further tweeted.

The World Health Organization warned Tuesday that the Omicron variant of the coronavirus was spreading at an unprecedented rate and urged countries to act.
