President Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo has stated that the country’s land borders will remain closed as the country continue to deal with the uncertainties associated with the COVID-19 pandemic
The border closure has been at the center of numerous agitations.
Some residence living around the border towns have raised concerns over the socio-economic impact of the closure on their lives and livelihoods, calling on the government to rescind its decision on the closure.
However, in his 27th address to the nation on efforts being taken to contain the COVID-19 virus, the President justified the need to keep the borders closed.
He stated that the closure of the borders remains one of Ghana’s surest panacea for dealing and curtailing the spread of the virus.
H.E the President further observed that the decision to close the land borders, which are a source of livelihoods to many, was necessary to limit the importation of the virus into the country.
‘‘We are monitoring the level of threats of the disease and ongoing vaccination in neighboring countries and soon as we are satisfied that it is safe to do so, the borders will be opened. Till then, I believe this is not the right time to reopen our land borders, as that was necessary to prevent a 4th wave of the virus, and a such they will remain closed until further notice,’’ he stated.
