Akuffo Addo appoints Sammi Awuku as the new Director-General of NLA

President Akufo-Addo  has appointed Samuel Kwabena Awuku, the National Organizer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), as the new Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA).


Sammi Awuku as he is popularly called will take over from Kofi Osei Ameyaw who was asked to proceed on retirement in March 2021. Sammi Awuku, a former National Youth Organizer of the NPP, is expected to resign from his current position as National Organizer to take over his new role.


He served as Board Chairman of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) and was elected twice as Vice Chair of the Young Democrats Union (IYDU), an international association of the youth wings of conservative parties across the world.

Profile of Samuel Kwabena Awuku
Sammuel had his basic school education at Nana Kwaku Boateng Experimental School. He continued his secondary education at St. Augustine’s College in Cape Coast and later read Political science and Psychology at Kwame Nkrumah Nniversity of Science and Technology. 


He holds a Diploma in Law from the University of London and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in International relations at the Free University of Berlin in Germany.
While at the University of Ghana, Sammi was a member of the political community, contesting for the presidency of the Student Representative Council.


From 2011 to 2013, he worked at the Communications Directorate of the New Patriotic Party, assisting the then Director of Communications, Nana Akomea, before his election as the National Youth Organiser in April 2014.


During the 2012 Election Petition hearing at the Supreme Court of Ghana, Sammi was charged with contempt of the highest court of the land. He was pardoned after pleading guilty and showing remorse.


As the National Youth Organiser, Sammi played a vital role in mobilizing the youth leading to NPP’s victory in the 2016 general elections.


In 2016, Sammi ranked fifth in number among fifty most Influential Young Ghanaians.
