Restriction of movements in Ghana lifted

The President of the republic of Ghana has lifted the partial lockdown which was issued about 3 weeks ago.

In a televised address to the nation, which is the President’s number 7 update since the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus, the President said

” In view of our ability to undertake aggressive contact tracing of infected persons, the enhancement of our capacity to test, the expansion in the numbers of our treatment and isolation centers, our better understanding of the dynamism of the virus, the ramping up of our domestic capacity to produce our one equipments, sanitizers and medicines, the modest success chalked at containing the spread of the virus in Accra and Kumasi and the severe impact on the poor and vulnerable, I have taken the decision to lift the three week old restriction on movements in the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area and Kasoa, and the Greater Kumasi Metropolitan Area and it’s contagious districts, with effect from 1 am on Monday,20th April.

The Ghana Health Service is continuing with the supervision of the completion of a backlog of laboratory samples which have been picked for testing for COVID-19. 

Total samples tested so far now stands at 68,591 with 1.52 % testing positive. The results of these backlog of samples when released does not mean the number of new cases recorded on the day of the report.

Regions that have reported cases remain the Greater Accra, Ashanti, Eastern, Northern, Volta, Upper East, Upper West, Central, Western and North East regions. 

The President continued to urge Ghanaians to still practice safety methods and wear the required PPE’s to help in the prevention od the Covid-19 pandemic.

Also Operators of public Transports including buses, trotros and taxis are to continue run using the safety measures laid down appropriately.
