Social Commentators Wades into Road Safety ahead of Christmas.

Ahead of the Christmas festivities, some social commentators have added their voice to road safety campaigns.

They have taken turns to advise drivers, motorists, passengers, and all stakeholders to exercise the highest level of discretion during these times.

Oyenews’ media monitoring shows several media reports and commentary on the need for defensive driving as we head into the yuletide.

It is reported that some 2,608 deaths have been recorded between January and November 2021

Kwesi Pratt, Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, who was speaking on Peace FM’s Morning Show, warned against recklessness on the part drivers.

He also attributed the high number of road accidents to the poorly managed road romps dotted at various sections of the road.

According to him, the installation of digital screens in commercial cars have also proved counterproductive to efforts at promoting road safety.

Adomako Baafi, former Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party, has pleaded with drivers in the country to exercise extreme caution on the roads. He asked road users, passengers and drivers to put human lives above all other considerations.

He asked vehicle owners to exercise restraint and avoid putting undue financial pressure on their drivers.

For his part, Charles Owusu, former Director of Monitoring and Evaluation at the Forestry Commission warned against indiscipline by drivers. He also asked drivers to properly inspect the conditions of their cars before hitting the road.
