Director-General for State Interest and Governance Authority (SIGA), has commended Former President, Late Jerry John Rawlings for instituting the Farmers’ Day ceremony to recognize the great work and contribution of farmers to the Ghanaian economy.

A cocoa farmer himself, the former Information Minister in the erstwhile Kufuor government, commended farmers for being resilient and hardworking, despite the challenges grappling agriculture.

He made this comment on GTV’s Breakfast Show, which is currently being held at Adisadel college in Cape Coast, where the Farmers’ Day ceremony is being held.

He bemoaned the lack of credit for farmers and expressed misgiving with the reluctance of banks to provide credit facilities to farmers.

Asabee, as he is affectionately called, advocated that MPs and people within the corridors of power must be compelled to go into farming, so they can become role models to the youth.

‘’I am a Cocoa and Teak farmer. Climate change has truly impacted farming and has brought uncertainties, which is very much counterproductive for farming, he further lamented.

The National Farmers Day Ceremony is being held at Adisadel College in Cape Coast. The ceremony is expected award 150 famers and fisherfolks, across the country.
