Constituents of Sefwi Wiawso electoral area have called on the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin to apologize to their Member of Parliament, Dr. Kwaku Afriyie.
Their calls are in protest the sacking of their member of parliament from the floor by the Speaker of Parliament on Monday.
It is recalled that in response to Dr. Kwaku Afriyie’s comment on the number of Supreme court Justices Ghana could have, the Speaker, who had deemed the member’s comment as being completely rude, asked the Marshall of parliament to escort the Minister out of Parliament.
This threw parliament into a chaotic state, until an apology by the Majority Whip, Hon. Annor Dompreh, doused the tension.
In subsequent interviews on Citi FM, the former Minister of Environment, Dr. Afriyie, insisted that the Speaker’s action had embarrassed him, denouncing the apology that had been offered on his behalf.
He criticized the Speaker for what he describes as the latter’s penchant to descend into the debate arena, when he is supposed to be an independent umpire.
Reacting to the development constituents of Sefwi Wiawso, who were all clad in red with red bands, criticized the manner in which their MP was treated.
In their view the Speaker did not have the right to repress the representation of people of Sefwi Wiawso with his action.
