The Member of Parliament for Bolgatanta Central constituency and financial analyst, Mr Isaac Adongo has taken a swipe at the Nana- Addo-Bawumia led administration calling it visionless.
Speaking on the mid-year budget review on the floor of parliament, he noted that the government has intentionally visited untoward hardship on the Ghanaian youth so they could manipulate them during elections.
He cited a promise by Dr. Bawumia to provide mobile phones on a GHC 1 hire purchase payment terms, as an example of the visionless of the NPP’s administration.
According to the vociferous legislature, the New Patriotic Party has since 2019, failed to meet all the fiscal performance benchmark stipulated in the IMF program.
‘‘Mr Speaker, this government has never met the fiscal conditions of an IMF program,’ he stated.
He noted that in stark defiance of the IMF conditionalities, the government has accumulated arears to the tune of 4.5 billion and have depreciated the cedi by 54%.
Mr. Adongo opined that only a National Democratic Congress government can reverse the telling economic situation in the country.
The Minister of Finance presented the Mid-year budget review to parliament on July Tuesday, July 23 2024.
This has since been met with mixed reactions. The Minority in Parliament has described the budget as lacking any ideas to address the challenges in the country.
They have expressed disappointment in the government’s failure to remove some taxes, including the Sanitation Tax, Electronic Transaction Levy, Betting Tax and a host of other levies.
The Majority, on the other hand, has praised the Minister for not requesting additional allocations, especially during an election year.
