The National Pensions Regulatory Authority has given the SSNIT the green light to continue with its planned sales of some four hotels within its portfolio

Following public outcry over the unlawful and unethical sale of SSNIT’s 60% stakes in four of its hotels, the sector’s regulator, NPRA, directed that the process be suspended until it was satisfied about the transaction.

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the North Tongu Parliamentarin who has led a spirited campaign against the sale welcomed the call for suspension by the NPRA.

He had raised concerns about the track record and procurement breaches that has characterized the sale and led a mammoth demonstration against the sale.

Allegations of impropriety has since been rejected by Brian Acheampong, the Minister for Agriculture, who doubles as the owner of Rock City, the company which has won the bid to buy the hotels.

But speaking on the floor of parliament, the Minister of Employment and Labor Relations, Baffour Awuah indicated that the National Pensions Regulator Authority has given the deal a clean bill of health to proceed.

‘‘So as a Minister, I can tell you on authority that NPA has indicated that they have seen the processes and SSNIT can go ahead,’’ he added.
