Former Zambia footballer, Philemon Mulala has been attacked and killed by his own dogs over the weekend in the South African town of Lichtenburg.
According to a statement from the South African Police Service, Mr. Mulala’s wife is said to have discovered him dead in their home’s garden and immediately called for help. The emergency services then arrived and pronounced him dead on the scene.
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has paid tribute to the 60year old deceased footballer. “We remain with wonderful memories that the late Philemon honoured us with on the pitch,” FAZ general secretary Adrian Kashala told South Africa’s Times Live newspaper.
Mr Mulala relocated to South Africa in the 1980s to play for the Kaizer Chiefs and then the Cape Town Spurs.
According to the South African Police Service, an inquest docket has been opened, and the investigation is ongoing.
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals have removed the three dogs from their home and put them in shelters.
