A court in Botswana has issued an arrest warrant for the former President of Botswana, Mr. Ian Khama for the possession of illegal firearms.
Orders were issued that, Mr. Khama must be arrested on site.
He left the country last year and has since then being living in South Africa.
Mr. Khama denied all allegations made at him, claiming they are in addition to a political conspiracy after he fell out with his successor President Mokgweetsi Masisi.
He is also allegedly facing 14 charges of money laundering and handling stolen property but the current charge is only for the possession of the illegal firearms.
He is charged with the former heads of intelligence and police services.
The warrant follows his deviant behavior of not appearing to court for the trials this year. This could lead to Botswana looking forward to extradition from South Africa.
However, he told Botswana’s Mmegi news site that he would welcome extradition as it would lead to him exposing the “lies” fabricated about him.
“He wants to eliminate me before the 2024 elections because he views me as his biggest stumbling block to his re-election,” Mr. Khama said.
