Simon Osei Mensah, the Ashanti Regional Minister, has ordered Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies to clear space at major market locations so that Ghana National Fire Service officers can observe and put out potential fires.
According to him, MMDAs that disobey the directive will be held accountable.
“This directive is only a measure to prevent possible market fires. Let’s all comply with it, so we can live safely,” he added.
This follows a report from the Ghana National Fire Service stating that 44 fire incidents were noted on Christmas day and other recent fire outbreaks in marketplaces.
