I won’t go beyond Two terms-President Nana Addo

President Nana Addo Danquah has reinforced his commitment to democratic principles, vowing not to bow out upon the expiration of his send term as President.

He was speaking at the 2 nd Kofi Annan Peace and Security Forum, held at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), on Wednesday, 8th December 2021.

President Akufo-Addo pledged to continue to respect the tenets of the ECOWAS Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance. 

He stated that: “I will not make or cause to be made any substantial modification to the electoral laws in the last six months before the next election; and I will respect the two-term limit for the exercise of presidential authority, as stipulated in the Constitution of the Republic of Ghana”. 

President Nana Addo also pledged his unalloyed support to ECOWAS, “they continue to work towards democracy and good governance in their respective countries”. 

Meanwhile, the Special representative of the UN Secretary-General to the African Union, Ms. Hannah Tettey, at the same forum, asked African leaders to be sincerely committed to the democratic principles.

She opined that violent and chaotic tensions that occurs in some African countries could be traced to the refusal of some African leaders to abide by democratic and constitutional imperatives.
