The Electoral Commission of Ghana in a released statement, has reminded all it’s stakeholders that, plans are far advanced for the compilation of the new voters register with anew Voter Management system for the upcoming 2020 Parliamentary and Presidential Elections.

The Commission is, however sensitive to the current state of affairs due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and will abide by the necessary precautions and safety protocols in the execution of it’s mandate when it deems it appropriate to begin the compilation of the register.

The Commission in it’s statement said, “The Commission has noted with graveyard concern, comments made by the Minority Leader of parliament, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu during a press conference held on 7th May 2020, that sought to attack the integrity and the mandate of the Electoral Commission as well as creating erroneous impressions in the minds of the general public on its attitude”

The Commission stated emphatically that it has not stated anywhere that it has received PPE’s from government as stated by the Minority Leader of parliament during his press conference.

The EC finds is troubling that the Minority Leader in Parliament will put such false claims out there without substantiating it’s authenticity, “for the avoidance of doubt the EC has not received any PPEs from Government” the statement said.

As stated in the Article 46 of the 1992 Constitution, the EC reiterates in it’s publish statement signed by the Ag.dir public of affairs Sylvia Annoh, that, It shall not be subject the direction control of any person or authority in the performance of it’s functions, except provided for in the Constitution or any law consistent with it.

The EC cautions the general public to disregard any fictitious election timetable and other letters circulating on social media purporting to have been published by the EC.
