Gold-for-Oil First Consignment set to Arrive Next Week

The Deputy Minister for Land and Natural Resources, Honourable George Mireku Duker has announced that the first consignment for the Gold-for-Oil deal should be expected in the country next week.

Speaking with journalists on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, the deputy minister when asked to expect the first consignment for the gold-for-oil deal said, “we are thinking next week, if I am not exaggerating.”

Hon. Mireku Duker was in a meeting with sector minister Honourable Samuel Abu Jinapor and the President of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Mr. Joshua Mortoti to deliberate on the gold-for-oil deal.

The gold for oil policy was announced by Vice President, honourable Mahamudu Bawumia on his Facebook page as part of government’s solution to ease burden on Forex.

The deputy minister said government is very much ready to kick start the policy.

The President of the Ghana Chamber of Mines said the organisation is ready to support the government.

“We see ourselves as a very important partner of the government, we would like to engage with government, we would like to sit and work things through and we would like to understand each others’ position as much as possible.”
