Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Member of Parliament for Juaboso, has predicted doom for the country after Ken Ofori-Atta is appointed caretaker of the Trade and Industry Ministry.

The Member of Parliament in an interview disclosed that Ken Ofori – Attah was not fit enough for the position of Trade and Industry Ministry.

According to him, Ken created a mess as a Finance Minister and should not have been given a double task but rather should have been kicked out of governance.

The Juaboso MP expressed his disappointment with the choice and listed several factors that make Mr. Ofori-Atta unsuitable for the job.

“There are a lot of reasons why this Finance Minister can be described as selfish and greedy. Go and find out the faces behind the Enterprise Insurance Company and go and look out for the number of contracts they have gotten from the Finance Ministry. Go and find out how Databank has suddenly become a major player in borrowing in this country.

“If he (Mr. Ofori-Atta) is not a greedy person and selfish, why is he still in office when his own Members of Parliament are saying he should resign? If he thinks that he is offering us something good, can’t he resign if he has a conscience?” Mr. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh said in an interview.

Mr. Akandoh further stated that having both incompetence and arrogance in one man, as Mr. Ofori-Atta does, is a dangerous combination.

“When incompetence and arrogance meet, it becomes very dangerous. One may be incompetent and is ready to learn and listen, and it may be well for us, but once the person is arrogant and incompetent, it is very dangerous for our country and that is where we find ourselves now.”

Background

President Akufo-Addo announced last week that Mr. Ofori-Atta will serve as caretaker minister of trade following the resignation of the substantive minister, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen on Thursday, January 5, 2023.

Although it is still unclear why Mr. Alan tendered his resignation. However, it is believed that he took the decision to enable him to focus on his presidential ambition after his first attempt to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2007 as flag bearer but lost to His Excellency the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo.
