The decision of the sit in Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Joseph Osei Owusu to count himself as member of Majority has not escaped the scrutiny of social media.
The controversial decision has since dominated media discourses; as various legal implication of the action is being explored.
In an attempt to meet the constitutional requirements for parliament to have more than half of parliamentarians to proceed with a vote on a motion, the M.P of Bekwai, who acted in the absence of Speaker counted himself as part of members of parliamentarians present.
This culminated in the annulment of the previous decision to reject the budget and subsequent approval of the 2022 Budget Statement and Economic Policy of government.
This conversation has found a space on Twitter with #MPforBekwai trending.
Whilst some have described the action as unlawful, affront and unconstitutional, others consider as legitimate to the extent that the Speaker is still a sitting member for the Bekwai constituency.
