Mr. Benjamin Kofi Ayeh, a former member of parliament for Upper Denkyira West, fears the buzz around LGBTQI+ in the media over these recent weeks, is a subtle attempt by proponents to normalize the practice in Ghana
‘‘We are only doing the bidding of this LGBT+ advocates with the numerous conversations on same. They are dragging towards that, and we need to unravel their plan. I hope we won’t get to a point where Ghanaians come to accept LGBTQI+ as normal,’’ he said.
In his view, the repeated pattern, and conversations around the LGBTQI+ phenomenon only serves to amplify and create more awareness, a practice he considers is in the best interest of advocates.
Whilst he admits that every one’s right must be respected, he also disagreed that rights should be personalized and unfettered. He opined that because the practice portends serious health and social consequence for the nation, we cannot just allow it to fester, because people want to indulge in same.
‘‘How will we treat a transgender man, who is to be admitted at the hospital? Will he be admitted at Females’ ward because he consider himself a woman now?, ’’ he queried.
Speaking on Peace FM’s kokrokro morning show, which program was monitored by Oyenews, he recommended that once we learn to appreciate our values and customs, we won’t allow people to impose their values on us through attempts to.
He queried whether we could live in a society where people chose to impose their personal values on social value and fiber.
‘‘We need to respect our core value and who we are as a people and not kowtow to pressure to undermine same,’’ Mr. Aye postulated.
