A Former Central Regional Minister, Mr. Kwabena Duncan has likened the call for the passage of the anti-LGBTQI+ bill to a huge tidal wave. He asserted : ”one should stand in the way of this tide. It is huge. You stand in the way of this tide at your own detriment.’’

He was speaking on the Wednesday edition of PeaceFM’s flagship Kokrokoo programme, which was closely monitored by Oyenews.

Expressing delight for the unity of voice in support of the bill, he stated that, since 1992, this issue has by far united many Ghanaians, from different walk of lives and backgrounds.

He explained further that from religious leaders, traditional leaders to other opinion leaders, it’s obvious that Ghanaians have spoken with a united voice about their detest for the practice and advocacy of LGBTQI+.

He, however, urged that certain portions of the bill need to be relooked at and fine-tuned, so it does not suffer any challenge during implementation.

‘‘Some portions of the bill impose vicarious liability on owners of media outlets, where LGBTI + advocacy is done, may be overstretched. We can have a relook at some of these concerns,’’ he remarked.

The affable immediate past central regional minister also advised Ghanaians to be measured in their support for the bill. He questioned why some sections of Ghanaians are requesting of parliament to conduct an open ballot on the bill, remarking that same could create unhealthy precedence.

He assured that as representatives of the people, in whom sovereignty resides, parliamentarians will not put their personal interest over that of the people they are representing.

‘‘In the CDD’s report on the subject, the voices of Ghanaians against the practice and advocacy of LGBTQI+, was clearly expressed. Let no one stand in the way of the wishes of Ghanaians’’, he asserted.
