The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) confirmed that a Z-9 helicopter, carrying eight people (three crew members and five passengers), went missing after taking off from Accra at 9:12 a.m. on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, en route to Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.

The helicopter lost radar contact shortly after departure, and search operations are underway to locate it and re-establish communication. The GAF has not disclosed the identities of those on board or the mission’s purpose but noted the flight was for a national event, specifically the launch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP) in Obuasi.

Some sources, including Graphic Online and MyJoyOnline, reported a crash at Adansi Akrofuom near Obuasi, with the wreckage found in flames and all occupants feared dead. Video footage allegedly shows charred remains at the scene, though the exact number of people on board is unclear, with some reports suggesting four. Poor weather conditions were cited as a possible factor, but the cause remains under investigation. The GAF has not officially confirmed the crash, only stating the helicopter is off radar.
