The appointment of Dr. Randy Abbey appears to have stoked controversy among social media and online enthusiasts, with many expressing grave reservations about the latter’s ability to handle the cocoa sector.
It is recalled that on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, the presidency announced the appointment of the sports administrator, as the new Chief Executive for Ghana Cocobod.
His appointment came days after he had been appointed as Chair of the Black Stars Management Committee.
Randy Abbey, an avowed critic of the erstwhile Akuffo Addo-Bawumia government, is expected to the steer the affairs of Cocobod, whose dwindling fortunes in recent times have been well reported.
But reacting to the development, some netizens could not hold back their disappointment with the president’s choice of a CEO of Ghana’s Cocobod.
While some believe his appointment is meant to reward his strong commitment to the course of the National Democratic Congress, others have heavily criticized same, questioning his competence to deliver for the job.
According to a Citifmonline report, some cocoa farmers have described Randy Abbey’s appointment as unconventional, as he is an outsider in the sector.
