The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor, has indicated that the ruling government of Ghana is bound to announce maximum solutions to help in curbing illegal mining, locally identified as ‘galamsey’.

Talking to Bernard Able on the Citi Breakfast show, he disclosed the meeting with the Organized Labour executives in order to discuss a possible ‘hold on’ for their scheduled strike on October 10.

“An agreement was drafted that the government will take steps to follow up to the LI2462 act, which spells out that Parliament can ensure the expeditious trials of offenders.”

Among the measures to be instituted by government, Hon. Jinapor added that guards will be assigned to do patrols around every water body or river.

“The impression should never be that we are just waking up to take action. We are just going to intensify our efforts.” — Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor.
