Since apologizing to Ibrahim Mahama for publishing false claims about the latter in his book latest book, ‘the President Ghana Never Got, Manasseh has incurred the wrath of many netizens, who appear disgusted at the journalist’s biased stands against some Ghanaian business owners.

It is recalled that the Chief Executive Officer of Engineers & Planners Limited, Mr. Ibrahim Mahama, demanded an immediate retraction and unqualified apology from investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni following claims Manasseh had made in his book about the internationally- reputed business mogul.

In his latest book, “The President Ghana Never Got,” Manasseh stated that the Universal Merchant Bank (UMB), formerly State-owned Merchant Bank, generated uproar in 2013 when it was sold to a private equity firm, Fortiz.

According to the author “the controversy deepened when it emerged that a brother of President John Mahama, Ibrahim Mahama, was one of the big debtors of the then Merchant Bank, which resulted in the bank’s struggles,” portions of the book read.

In a sharp response to these claims by Manasseh, solicitors of Ibrahim Mahama demanded an immediate retraction of the publication and an unqualified apology from Manasseh.

They contended that the journalist’s publication which linked Mr. Mahama to the financial struggles of the bank, is not only untrue but has negatively impacted on Mr. Mahama’s reputation as an honest businessman.

They clarified that not only was the amount involved fully paid but also it was Engineers and Planners which was liable and not Ibrahim Mahama.

After an initial attempt to whittle down on threats by solicitors of Ibrahim Mahama, Manasseh subsequently apologized for the false claims, citing an ‘oversight.’

‘‘Consequently, I retract the said reference to Ibrahim Mahama as the debtor and apologize for any adverse effect that may have been occasioned by said publication,’ he stated in a post on X.

This apology has, however, not been met favorably by some followers, who have minced no words in expressing their misgivings with the way Manasseh conducts his work as a journalist. It is obvious that a lot of people are unimpressed with Manasseh’s way of exaggerating matters and not seeking deeper understanding on issues before running to town with them.
