This followed the member’s remark following comments made by the Speaker on the appointment of some additional justices to the supreme court.

Commenting on the President’s letter to parliament after referring the nominees to the Appointment’s Committee, Speaker Alban Babgbin had stated that only parliament could approve or accept an upper ceiling for the number of justices of the supreme court.

He further urged the appointment’s committee to be guided by the convention regarding the number of supreme court justices as they engage the said nominees.

‘‘So we are being called forth through this letter as as a house to look at tissue of the full complement of the supreme court…should it be 13, 15, 20 40 or 100…It is for this house to decide and I am urging you to look at this issue’’ he stated.

But in a sharp response to the Speaker’s comment, the Member of Parliament for Sefwi Wiaso, Dr. Kwaku Afriyie bluntly told the Speaker that his remarks were prejudicial as such a decision did not ‘‘lie in his mouth’’ to remind parliament.

‘‘This is a completely rude remark, and I can send you out of the house now. It lies in my authority to do so. You represent the people of Sefwi Wiawso, I represent the whole country. Please Marshall take him out of the house, the visibly irked speaker ordered.

This threw parliamentary out of order until an apology by the Majority Chief Whip, Hon. Annor Domprey was accepted by the Speaker.
