Mr. Yaw Korankye Antwi has decried the lackadaisical attitudes of Ghanaians towards their pensions.

“A lot of the time, we do not have interest in SSNIT matters,’’ he stated.

According to the Pensions Consultant, most Ghanaians are truly not prepared for pensions as they do not make adequate preparation while still in active working lives.

He encouraged Ghanaians to monitor their pensions regularly and periodically to avert any human related mistakes that could impact adversely on contributor’s pensions.

He noted that SSNIT has in recent times strengthened its publicity, leading to an increase in pensions penetration rate, which is currently pegged at 11%.

While he agrees that social security will not give anyone a life of luxury, the cushioning it provides is critical for a decent life after active service.

He made these comments during an interview on UTV’s MPU NE MPU program.

He commended organized labor for demonstrating high interest in their pensions following their recent attempted strike action over SSNIT’s quest to offload 60% of its hold in four of its hotels.

Mr. Antwi also decried delays in pension contributions made by government on behalf of public sector workers.
