ECG transformer catches fire at Achimota power station

An ECG 33kV earthen transformer has caught fire at the Electricity Company of Ghana Limited (ECG) Achimota Bulk Supply Point (BSP) at Abelemkpe in Accra.

The Ghana National Fire Service at Abelemkpe was quick to help quench the blazing fire to prevent more damage at the station.

According to an eyewitness, he heard a loud blast which was followed by a cloud of smoke and fire then he quickly called the fire service who got there in time to intervene.

The fire started around 3:55 pm, on January 23, 2023.

However, the cause of the fire has not been confirmed yet since investigation is still ongoing.

The Assistant Divisional Officer Two (ADO2) at the Abelemkpe Fire Service Station, Nathaniel Amoah in a statement made to Citi News; “there was no casualty, just that some parts of the city will not have power for now.

“Fortunately enough, we were able to quench it in time when we arrived,” ADO2 Amoah said.

They are currently working on getting the power back in areas affected by the incident.
