Togbe Afede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of Asogli, has urged graduates to dismiss their insatiable need for money and instead work hard to become agents of change for the country.
He addressed the 7th congregation of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) at the main campus in Sokode-Lokoe, near Ho on Saturday, January 21, 2023.
Speaking to the graduates as a special guest, he stated that success and money were achieved via hard labor, honesty, and perseverance, and that riches obtained through deception brought no honor.
According to Agbogbomefia, the country’s current economic and development issues may appear overwhelming, but they also provide possibilities for graduates to be innovative and use their liberated minds from their education to overcome those challenges.
He pointed out that university degrees served little purpose if they did not help to meet the aspirations of the community.
“Therefore, you must focus on things that matter to the people and not the desire to attain money, expensive cars and massive houses with money cash from dubious sources,” he told the graduands.
Togbe Afede shed further light on wealth creation, saying it was time for Ghanaians to forgo a little sleep and devote more time to serving the nation with zeal and excitement.
“Poverty is created in bed, and you cannot sleep as if you are competing with the dead and expect success to come your way,” he added.
The guest of honor, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, Minister of Education, lauded UHAS for achieving a high quality as a university in international circles in less than a decade.
He gave an assurance that the government would take the necessary steps to address the infrastructural deficits of UHAS sooner than later.
He further entreated the graduands to be humble in their practice, saying a certificate without a good attitude by the holder would be meaningless.
