The Ghana Police Service on Wednesday, 18th January, 2023, have arrested a man who made accusations in a viral audio tape against the police for planting narcotics in his car and trying to extort money from him.
The suspect described himself as Dr. Patrick Asiedu in the viral audio tape and claimed that only a fingerprint examination and his soldier brother cleared him.
The police has said in a press release that the man in question was indeed called Patrick Asiedu but he is rather an Uber driver and not a doctor as he claimed in the audio tape.
“The investigations show that the entire story narrated in the audio tape is false and a total fabrication by the suspect,” the police said in a statement.
The police confirmed that the audio tape’s dramatic descriptions of a claimed military intervention and a brawl between police officers and soldiers are all untrue and a fabrication by the suspect.
“Equally false are the vivid descriptions of having been taken to the Accra Central and East Legon Police Stations as well as the Narcotics Control Commission. The claims of fingerprints being taken are also untrue.
“Patrick Asiedu, the suspect, however, alleged that he had once witnessed a similar incident and that his narration in the viral audio happened to one of his passengers,” The statement added.
The police further disregarded claims in another audio made by the suspect saying he met the Inspector – General of Police.
“Investigations are still ongoing and suspect Patrick Asiedu who is currently in police custody will be brought to face justice,” The statement concluded.
