The Ashanti Regional Director, Mr Alex Opoku-Mensah, who was suspended immediately after a viral audio of an altercation between him and a nurse at the Manhyia Government Hospital, has been transferred to Accra.

The Regional National Service Scheme(NSS) head can be heard in the viral audio raining insults on the nurse after it was alleged that he wanted a review of a prescription issued by his daughter, who is a junior doctor at the facility.

Though he apologized for what he did, a committee was then set up to investigate the altercation.

After the committee’s report was given to the NSS, the Executive Director, Osei Assibey Antwi, wrote to Mr. Opoku-Mensah in a letter to communicate the Board’s decisions.

According to the letter, Mr. Opoku-Mensah will be suspended for two months without pay.

“After the suspension, you are to report to the Head Office to work under supervision.

“Within seven (7) days upon receipt of this notice, you are also to issue an official apology to the National Service Scheme for bringing the name of the Scheme into disrepute. The directive takes immediate effect,” the letter reads.

The committee that investigated the incident were representatives from the NSS, the Public Service Commission, and the Ministry of Education.

They were given one month to report its decision to the NSS management.
