Pope Benedict Dies

The former head of the Catholic Church Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, has died in the early hours of Saturday, 31 December 2022.

He died at age of 95 after worsening health condition due to old age.

The late Pope was the Head of the Catholic Church from April 19, 2005 to December 28 2013.

He stepped down amidst scandals against the church and became the first Pope to apologise publicly for allegations leveled against the church.

He also made it a point to meet up with victims and affirmed that the church did not act up quickly and also did not take the necessary action.

He retired after that and chose to live at Mater Ecclesiae, where he eventually demised.

His successor Pope Francis announced his worsening health condition on December 28, 2022.

Pope Benedict XVI will remain at the Mater Ecclesiae until Monday January 2, 2023.

His body will be laid in state at the St Peter’s Basilica so faithful can pay their last respect to him.
