After taking a knock in England’s World Cup victory against Iran, Harry Kane will have a scan on his right ankle.
Kane did not participate in open training yesterday, nor did any of the game’s starters, as is customary for the day following a game.
Kane was injured in the second half and was replaced after 76 minutes.
After the game, England manager Gareth Southgate stated that Kane’s departure was a precaution.
However, the striker was later seen exiting the stadium with his ankle strapped.
Kane has previously dealt with ankle issues, missing 14 games in the 2016/17 season. He also missed four games last season due to a separate ankle injury.
Sky Sports’ David Prutton says, “It’s a huge miss [if Harry Kane is ruled out], not just as a player but as a person, leading the way he does. He didn’t get on the scoresheet against Iran – I’m sure he’s very frustrated at that.
“I think Callum Wilson coming on and doing well is a bright spark to a [potentially bad situation].
“We will be waiting for the results of this scan, but I think the group is good enough to cover without him. The thing is with angles, I mean, I have dodgy ankles myself, and they’re not quick turnarounds.
“You can’t think Kane was left on after the injury just to get on to the scoresheet, that’s a bit indulgent, isn’t it? We’re talking a matter of minutes to diagnose and work forward on the problem, but it was slightly strange [he played on] when the game was done.”
