On Monday, October 17, the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi, was the scene of jeers and catcalls for President Akufo-Addo, who was reviewing Phase II of the Kejetia/Central Market Project.
The president’s convoy was met by scores of traders at Adum in the central business area who had displayed their items for sale on their route to the Kumasi Central Market.
When they saw the vehicles carrying the president and government officials, the market ladies, hawkers, and artisans wasted no time in expressing their dissatisfaction with the current economic condition.
In a video released on the microblogging platform TikTok, traders and bystanders can be heard booing as the convoy approaches.
In good times, the ruling New Patriotic Party stronghold would be a warm welcome for the President, with citizens waiving their approbation and some providing their clothes for a carpet for him to tread on.
Meanwhile, the President has authorized the construction of a 20-unit residential complex in Kumasi for Appeals Court justices.

The project, which includes four bedrooms, a swimming pool, and recreational facilities, was completed on time.
It is supposed to relieve the justices’ accommodation pressure and expedite case adjudication at the Appeals Court in Kumasi.
