Power FM’s presenter, Oheneba Boamah Bennie, has been released after serving 14 days in Nsawam prison and is also set to pay an amount of GHc3000 to the Accra High Court Criminal Division after being charged with contempt of court.
His release which took place on Monday, February 21, 2022, saw some family and friends excorting him off in joy.
Background
The presenter on February 8, 2022, was jailed for two weeks by the Accra High Court for Contempt of Court and for publication of false news contrary to Sections 207 and 208 (1) respectively of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29) after posting a video of President Akufo-Addo in a secret meeting with some Supreme Court Judges alleging that the president during the 2020 election influence the judges with some bribes hence, making him win the election as president.
He was however invited by the CID and it was later found out that his alleged video was fake and defamatory.
He was sued by the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame and he later pleaded guilty and admitted that his video was fake.
