Former Deputy Minister of Information and Spokesperson for Former President John Dramani Mahama, James Agyenim Boateng has expressed worry over the lack of patronage of Ghanaian music by Ghanaian DJs.
This follows conversations that have been generated by Shatta Wale’s rant about the lack of support for Ghanaian artists by their Nigerian counterparts.
At his Freedom Wave Concert held at the Accra Sport Stadium, Shatta Wale took a swipe at players in Nigeria’s Entertainment Industry.
According to the controversial Dancehall artist, Nigeria’s Entertainment industry hardly supports arts from different countries.
In response to this debate and the controversies that have been generated, sensational Hip-Hop artist, Kwaw Kesse stated that Ghanaian DJs must bear a share of blame for the difficulty some Ghanaian artists face, when seeking to penetrate other markets.
According to him their lack of interest and patronage for Ghanaian music is to be blamed for the difficulty that some Ghanaian artists face in their bid to enter other markets.
This view seems to have been endorsed by the Former Minister of Information, who took to his Twitter page to share his experience.
According to Mr. James Boateng,
‘‘On 24th Dec. 2021, I visited a very big malls in Accra. I was there for well over 40 minutes. All that while there was music blasting through the mall’s sound system. Not one Ghanaian musician’s song was played for the period that I was there,’’ he narrated.
‘‘I felt genuinely worried about that,’’ he lamented.
