The Minority Chief Whip of Parliament, Hon. Muntaka Mubarak, has said that the tension in parliament will not cease if the rules are manipulated to suit one side of the house.
He made this prediction while speaking to Citifm, following the fisticuffs that characterized parliamentary sitting of Monday, December 20, 2021.
The Member of Parliament for the Asawase constituency in the Ashanti region remarked that until the house moves to build deeper consensus, such incidences will recur.
The incident of Monday, December 20, 2021, has raised a lot of questions about consensus building in Parliament.
The Majority Leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affair, Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, while apologizing to the public for the incident, described same as shameful and embarrassing, one which should not recur.
But according to Muntaka Mubarka, once there is an attempt to manipulate the rules and processes of parliament, resistance and fights will become inevitable, as it pertains in other jusrisdictions.
‘‘The basic reason is because somebody want to turn the law in his or her favour, and knowing that whatever happens in the chamber is a closed book, MPs will fight no matter who they are,’’ he stated.
