Former President John Dramani Mahama has clarified circumstances under which he hosted, Gabby Otchere Darko at his residence, on Tuesday December 21, 2021.
News of the President’s nephew’s visit to the Former president’s residence has gone viral, with many questioning the basis for such visit.
But in a response to controversies surrounding the visit, the Former head of state, said the meeting was at the request of Gabby Otchere Darko, who among others, expressed the desire of Ghanaians to see the two major political parties working together for the interest of the nation.
According to the John Dramani Mahama, further discussions bothered on how dialogue can be deployed to ensure Parliamentary issues are agreed consensually before coming on the floor to avoid the fisticuff that characterized the Parliamentary sitting of December 20, 2021.
John Dramani Mahama also refuted suggestions that President Akufo-Addo had sought his intervention on the E-Levy impasse, which has left the decision on the E-levy on tenterhooks.
‘‘We further discussed opening channels of communication between the leaders of the two parties including a possible meeting with the President at a future date. At no time was there any discussion specifically about the President requiring my intervention in the impasse on the E-levy, the Former President clarified.
