Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Obiri Boahene has asked Ghanaians to respect the institution of Parliament.
He was responding the rancorous scenery that characterized parliamentary sitting of Wednesday, December 01, 2021.
‘’We must respect the institution of Parliament. It is an institution on its own’’, he charged.
He further raised some misgivings with constitutional provisions that oblige the President to choose majority of Ministers from Parliament.
The respected Lawyer blamed the deep seated cracks and internal political wrangling on the Executive Presidency system and this constitutional imperative.
‘’Everyone wants to be in Parliament to better their chance of being appointed Minister or deputy Minister. This is why there is so much internal wrangling when parties want to select candidates for issues during parliamentary elections,’’ he lamented.
He recommended that the President must have the luxury to choose from every quarter without being limited to choose majority of Ministers from Parliament.
